First of all, thank you for encouraging me to consider a tribute to Neil. It's so easy to miss real gems - not just in terms of what they accomplish but who they are underneath the surface. Not this time!

I think your take on Neil is right. I also think you've put your finger on something very important - his pure interest in doing his job really well. Sometimes it's as simple and as great as that.

It's interesting to consider how Neil did something so brave, high profile and what we all consider 'great', to then slip back into a normal day to day life in Ohio. It makes you think about achievement and if one does really catch the bug to be in the public eye with the attention and the press. Perhaps the people who need to remain there are not happy with themselves at their very core. My take is that Neil was a well adjusted, nerdy engineer and the greatness was achieved because he was just doing his job well and the fanfare didn't really impress him all that much. That's certainly admirable in my book, and something to strive for...

A great thought from Neil's family...

"While we mourn the loss of a very good man, we also celebrate his remarkable life and hope that it serves an example to young people around the world to work hard to make their dreams come true, to be willing to explore and push the limits, and to selflessly serve a cause greater than themselves."
